The Michigan State Historic Preservation Tax Credit 2024 application is right around the corner!

Ryan Schumaker SHPO Officer

Hello!

My name is Ryan Schumaker and I am the newly appointed State Historic Preservation Officer for the state of Michigan. I am very excited about my new role because I get to work with my talented staff, helping communities across Michigan in the identification and preservation of important buildings, structures, landscapes, and archaeological sites that tell the history of all peoples who have called Michigan their home.

With that goal in mind, I would like to extend an invitation to participate in the 2024 State Historic Preservation Tax Credit program to all those who are interested. This program allows for individuals or businesses to claim a credit on their state Michigan Personal Income taxes or Michigan Business Income taxes up to 25% of the total qualified rehabilitation expenditures on a historic building rehabilitation project. In 2024, we will be accepting applications for Owner-Occupied (Residential) and Small Commercial building projects. Eligible properties must be listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the State Register of Historic Sites, or be in a local historic district, and either be individually listed or contribute to a listed district.

Attend the Webinar: Thursday, December 14, 2023: 1:00-2:00pm

SHPO's architect Mara Lancaster has been invited by the Michigan Historic Preservation Network to present a virtual webinar to preview the 2024 state historic tax credit program and discuss how to submit your best application. The webinar is free to attend, but registration is required. Click the link below to register for the webinar.
