FROM THE DESK OF DAVE LORENZ

National Travel & Tourism Week 2002 Frankenmuth

Michigan tourism industry leaders gathered in Frankenmuth this week to celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week, recognizing the collective strength of Michigan’s travel industry and the contributions of the U.S. travel industry in driving economic recovery growth and building the path forward through the theme “The Future of Travel.” The theme elevates how the travel industry can restore the workforce, help communities recover, foster sustainability, usher in new innovations, and reconnect travelers in the U.S. and around the world.

The industry celebrated the value travel holds for our economy, businesses, communities, personal well-being, and more. Thanks to all TICOM members and Frankenmuth for hosting a remarkable event that captured the resiliency and passion of the Michigan travel industry and the future of travel in Pure Michigan.

I’m also pleased to share a recent announcement of a new partnership between the National Park Service and the State of Michigan to advance accessibility, affordability and mobility within the state’s national parks. The first-of-its-kind partnership aims to improve safety, sustainability, and equitable access at national parks through innovative mobility technologies deployed in Michigan’s five national parks. This initiative will be a critical addition to Michigan’s efforts to welcome travelers of all backgrounds and abilities, as we continue working to provide opportunities for sustainable recreation and mobility while improving the experience for park visitors.

As always, we are reminded of how the transforming power of travel can do so much in connecting and uniting us all. Travel experiences open the mind, connect us as one another and provide an opportunity for a sense of place and belonging as we encourage travelers to Pursue their Pure in Michigan this summer.

Over the next few weeks, you’ll find a number of Pure Michigan festivals and tours in full swing. A small sampling include Tulip Time Festival (May 7-15), Blossomtime Festival (May 14), World Expo of Beer (May 20-21), Native American Festival (May 28), Straits of Mackinac Birding Tour and the Great Lakes Piping Plover Tour.

The future is bright for Pure Michigan.

All Best,
