While I know the last few months of 2019 have been challenging— at least when it comes to the uncertainty around the budget, we are starting the New Year off on a positive note, both in Lansing and in Washington D.C.

Here in Michigan, State Representative Jack O’Malley (Lake Ann, Benzie County) announced that he will introduce a bill in January to fully fund Pure Michigan in 2020. Certainly, there are still details to be worked out and a number of steps in the legislative process that still need to happen—including getting the bill introduced. But this was an important step in moving the conversation forward and arming us to continue doing what we do best—promoting Michigan as a four-season leisure travel destination.

In Washington, D.C., funding authorization was granted for Brand USA, ensuring the nation’s premier marketing organization will be able to continue with its vital work through 2027. This is also good news for Michigan, as we have worked closely with Brand USA over the years to ensure Michigan is a part of the story they are telling to international travelers looking to experience the best of America.

Both of these moves are tremendous developments for the travel industry and for everyone in Michigan. There is no doubt 2020 will bring with it some serious challenges, but I guarantee that we’ll do all we can to create a winning environment for travel and tourism.

Finally, since we are in the business of promoting all our amazing four seasons here in Michigan, I hope you are getting a chance to watch our Ski Pure Michigan video series. The recent warm up in temperatures may have felt spring-like, but winter is here and the slopes are hot. Check out Ski Pure Michigan on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram or at www.michigan.org/signatureskiruns.

I hope you have a HAPPY NEW YEAR, and cheers to all of you who are making Michigan’s tourism industry thrive!
