International Trade Updates

The International Trade program ended FY 2018 Quarter 1 with huge success! Companies reported facilitated export sales of over $150 million, achieving 96% of the export sales goal this quarter and keeping the program on track to meeting the overall FY18 goal of $630 million. The MEDC International Trade program has now facilitated over $2 billion in export sales since FY 2012. The program, to date, has also assisted 1,359 companies with STEP, Michigan Trade Center Assistance, Trade Missions and Shows, Export Education, and/or consultation with staff. 

Arab Health Exhibition Dubai

.

Eight Michigan companies joined the Michigan booth at the Arab Health Exhibition in Dubai, UAE January 29- February 2, 2018. Arab Health is the Middle East’s largest and world’s second largest healthcare congress and exhibition. The 2018 exhibition showcased more than 4,200 companies exhibiting their latest innovations to more than 103,000 healthcare professionals attending from 158 countries. Five of the eight participating Michigan companies took part in 47 pre-arranged business matchmaking meetings with prospective partners, distributors and buyers, organized by the Michigan Arab Gulf Trade Center in Dubai. While in country, participants received a briefing from the Michigan office about doing business in the region, attended the AmCham Arab Health Kick-Off Breakfast and joined the USA-MENA Partnership reception.

Participating companies included: AvaSure (Belmont); Dental Air Force, Inc. (Holland); Henry Ford Health System (Detroit); M.A.K.S. Inc. (Troy); Prestige Global Healthcare (Canton); RightAnswer (Midland); SunMed, LLC (Grand Rapids); Surgical Safety Scanner (Brighton).

This is the sixth year MEDC has led a group of businesses to Arab Health. Companies that have participated in the last three years have reported over $14 million in increased sales as a result of attending the show.

South Africa and Tanzania Trade Mission

Join the Conference of Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Governors and Premiers trade mission to South Africa and Tanzania – one of the fastest growing global regions in the world. The goal of this mission is to assist small to medium-sized companies from the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence region to export products and services to this important market.

The mission delegation will make stops in Johannesburg and Pretoria, South Africa, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Each mission participant will receive a customized schedule of B2B meetings to meet with prospective customers and business partners.
