The online platform, www.Scholarbiz.com,
designed to match businesses with students to complete project-based work for a
fee, was created to augment as well as offer an alternative to traditional
internships.
The website – Scholarbiz.com – offers the ability for businesses to
upload company projects for completion, including but not limited to; marketing,
research projects, technology work, proofreading, presentation development, and
social media management. In turn, students register on the site for free and
identify their academic strengths and areas of interest. The website technology
then matches students with projects and manages the process from inception
through completion. Businesses and students interact via the site and once the
project is completed, the business provides feedback and ratings to the student.
Businesses can post individual projects within minutes on the site and
prices ranges from $40 - $500, depending on the project scope and level of complexity.
Businesses can also sign up for a monthly membership, which provides access to a
set number of student hours each month, based on each membership level.
“The
internship model can be very limiting. Business professionals have a wide range
of projects at any given time and they often need support to push them toward
completion,” Co-Founder Mark Berishaj said. “Scholarbiz offers the flexibility
of connecting with vetted, capable students to execute projects on demand, for
a minimal fee, while also providing work experience for students. The business
and the student receive tremendous benefit,” he added.
Scholarbiz
has connected with students from over a dozen colleges and universities over
the past year. Businesses from across
the state have signed on to Scholarbiz and utilized students to complete
projects, which have included logo design, product and market research,
creating LinkedIn and Facebook pages, revising website content, writing press
releases, and creating brochures and product documents.
Scholarbiz
was recently profiled on Fox 2News- The Job Shop with Murray Feldman as well as
dbusiness, to name just a couple.

Are you interested in learning more about starting or supporting an apprenticeship program with your company?
You may be eligible for MAT2 tuition
reimbursement if you register your MAT2 employee(s) for a USDOL
Registered Apprenticeship. The purpose of the Michigan Advanced Technician
Training (MAT2) Employer Training Grant is to increase the number of
MAT2 companies registering their programs with the United States
Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship, and to better integrate MAT2
with the broader workforce and talent system.
Eligible Grant Awards
Eligible grantees are MAT2 employers who have
students enrolled at a MAT2 college in an approved MAT2
training program. Michigan Works! agencies will submit grant applications
on behalf of companies. Based on the program guidelines, you may be eligible
for:
-
$5,000 per new employee to
establish USDOL Registered Apprenticeships for MAT2 companies
willing to sponsor employee(s) in a MAT2 occupational program
for cohort year 2016. The grant would cover 50% of the first year
tuition for most MAT2 programs.
-
3,000 per employee for
MAT2 companies with MAT2 employees, in cohort 2015, who
are not yet registered for an USDOL Apprenticeship, and are in the second
program year.
-
$2,000 per employee for
MAT2 companies with MAT2 employees, who are in cohorts
from years 2014 or 2013, who are not yet registered for an USDOL
Apprenticeship, and are beginning the third program year or will finish the
training as of the end of August 2016.
Applications and other information will be available through
your local Michigan Works! office in September 2016. Each MAT2
employer will need to work with the local Michigan Works! Agency to review and
certify employer funding requests. The complete MAT2 Employer
Training Grant application will be submitted by the MWA representative.
Completion of the MAT2 grant application does not guarantee
funding. Reimbursement of tuition paid by the employer is subject to
available funding.
A Complete Grant Application
The following items will be needed for the complete MAT2
Employer Training Grant application:
- A
copy of the MAT2 Employer Training Plan
- Proof
of tuition payment (a cashed tuition payment check or credit card proof of
payment receipt)
- A
copy of the USDOL Apprenticeship Certification Letter or Certificate when
submitting the application.

The Starting a Business Workshop is intended for individuals in the beginning stages of starting a business, in need of accessing capital, or simply considering self-employment.
Delivered in a workshop format, this introductory session helps aspiring entrepreneurs assess their abilities to lead and manage a company, as well as evaluate market and sales potential for their products/services.
This comprehensive 2.5 hour workshop also incorporates the SBDC's fundamental Writing a Business Plan workshop and fully covers topics such as determining concept feasibility, startup costs, financing options, the basics of business planning, along with other necessary resources to launch.
The workshop features instruction by a SBDC Small Business Consultant, and is a pre-requisite to meeting with a SBDC consultant one-on-one.
The Michigan Small Business Development Center will host the Starting a Business Workshop in the following locations through August. Click on the links to learn more and register.
