I want to send out a big thank you to all of you who took part in the Michigan Cares for Tourism Fayette Historic State Park Clean-Up event on Oct. 4-6. We had a sold-out event with a tremendous crew of volunteers who spent two and a half days working on the park, doing everything from helping to restore several of the historic buildings in this once bustling iron smelting company town to creating pathways and installing signage.

Participants rolled-up their sleeves and worked together to accomplish great things, putting a focus on the spirit of collaboration and cooperation that we see happening across Michigan's tourism industry every day. This thriving volunteer program is a perfect example of how nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something.

A big thank you to Patty Jones of Grand Valley State University, those on the organizing committee and our generous sponsors - all of whom put in countless hours and resources to make this another successful event. For those of you who have not had an opportunity to participate in a Tourism Cares event, I hope that you will consider doing so in 2016 (project info coming soon). In the meantime, check out the Michigan Cares for Tourism website or Facebook page for more information and photos of the Fayette Historic State Park Clean-Up, as well as clean-ups on Belle Isle, Sturgeon Point and Mill Lake.

Sincerely,
Dave Lorenz
