Crash barrier installation to affect ramps on M-10 (Lodge Freeway) and I-75 service drive in Wayne County

COUNTY:

Wayne

HIGHWAY:

Northbound M-10 ramp to westbound M-8

Northbound I-75 ramp to westbound M-102 (8 Mile Road)

CLOSEST CITIES:

Highland Park and Detroit

START DATE:

Wednesday, April 8, 2015

ESTIMATED END DATE:

Late Spring 2015

PROJECT DETAILS:

The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing nearly $200,000 to install crash attenuators, which are a type of cushion barriers, in two locations. The barriers are used to protect drivers and reduce damage to vehicles involved in a crash. The current barriers have reached the end of their service life and need to be replaced. The new type of barriers will reduce the need for frequent maintenance and replacement.

The first barrier installation will be on the northbound M-10 (Lodge Freeway) ramp to westbound M-8 (Davison Avenue), which will require closing the ramp for approximately three weeks.

The second barrier installation will be on the northbound I-75 service drive to westbound M-102 (8 Mile Road) and is expected to begin in late April or early May.

TRAFFIC IMPACT:

Beginning Tuesday, April 7, the northbound M-10 (Lodge Freeway) ramp to westbound M-8 (Davison Avenue) will be closed. The posted detour includes northbound M-10 (Lodge Freeway) to eastbound M-8 (Davison Avenue), then the turnaround east of M-1 (Woodward Avenue) and back to westbound M-8.

During work on the northbound I-75 service drive to westbound M-102 (8 Mile Road), traffic will be detoured via the northbound I-75 service drive to eastbound M-102 (8 Mile Road), then left onto the westbound M-102 (8 Mile Road).
