March 16, 2015 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is encouraging users of its popular Mi Drive traffic information app to update the app today. The update offers improved graphics, faster map loading, new map layer controls (including a reset button), the ability to select and save favorite camera views directly on the map for quick reference, and a filter to sort construction searches by county and route. MDOT said many of the changes were made in response to feedback from users.

"The Mi Drive app has been downloaded nearly 38,000 times, so we know motorists find it useful," said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle. "If you haven't downloaded it yet, we hope you do so now. And remember to please use this app to check your route before leaving for your destination. We want everyone to remain safe and pay attention while they are driving."

To update the free app, go to iTunes or Google Play and search for MDOT or Mi Drive.

MDOT plans to update the Mi Drive app as needed and encourages drivers to use the "Contact Us" link on the app to submit questions, comments or suggestions about how to make the app work even better for them.

Mi Drive uses intelligent transportation systems (ITS) technology, speed sensors, cameras, and cell phone data to provide motorists with real-time information about factors that can affect travel. The site currently displays real-time traffic camera views, real-time color-coded speeds on major routes, message boards, work zones, rest areas and Michigan Welcome Centers, MDOT carpool lots, and National Weather Service forecasts by city name or ZIP code. Motorists also can report potholes or use the site's "Stuck in Traffic" feature to report traffic incidents and conditions as they occur.

The Mi Drive site and app are maintained by MDOT; the Department of Technology, Management and Budget; the state's Center for Shared Solutions & Technology Partnerships; and the ITS program office within the MDOT Operations Field Services Division. The Mi Drive site is available for personal computers and as a mobile version at www.michigan.gov/drive.
