Preliminary Transportation Asset Management Council report:
Decline in road conditions accelerating
March 13, 2015 -- The Transportation Asset Management Council (TAMC) has determined that the rate of pavement deterioration on federal-aid roads is accelerating. Paved federal-aid roads are rated every year. The ratings are used to place each road in one of three categories: good, fair, or poor. The ratings are reported annually to the State Transportation Commission and the Michigan Legislature. In each of the past five years, more roads fell into a lower category than were improved. In 2014, about 20,000 lane-miles of roads declined, while only 12,000 improved, a net decline of 8,000 lane-miles. 2013 saw a net decline of 3,600 lane miles. The report will be released later this spring.
