M-53 (Van Dyke Avenue) resurfacing and bridge work from 18 Mile Road to M-59 (Hall Road) begins in early March

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing approximately $16 million for a project on M-53 in multiple locations within Macomb County, including:

Beginning in early March, southbound M-53 will be closed from M-59 to 18 Mile Road and detoured for approximately three months to complete the road and bridge work. Southbound M-53 traffic will be detoured via westbound M-59 (Hall Road) to southbound Mound Road, then eastbound 18 Mile Road to southbound M-53.

Once southbound work is completed, northbound M-53 will be closed from 18 Mile Road to M-59 for approximately three months to complete that side's road and bridge work. Northbound M-53 traffic will be detoured via westbound 18 Mile Road, northbound Mound Road, eastbound Dobry Drive (service drive), and eastbound M-59 to northbound M-53.

Drivers should expect local road closures at M-53 at various times during this project.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly supports 227 jobs.
