Lane closures for road and bridge work are scheduled for 8 p.m. tonight (Friday) through 5 a.m. tomorrow on eastbound I-96 from Walker Avenue to US-131. During this time, the following ramps will also be closed:
-The off ramp from eastbound I-96 to 3 Mile Road/M-37 (Alpine Avenue),
-The on ramp from southbound M-37 to eastbound I-96,
-The ramp from northbound US-131 to eastbound I-96.
-The ramp from eastbound I-96 to southbound US-131 remains closed until September 30.
Detour- Take EB I-96 to NB US-131 to W. River Drive to SB US-131. Alternate route- Take EB I-96 to Plainfield Avenue to WB I-96 to SB US-131.

I-96 road and bridge improvements begin
Monday near US-131 in Walker
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing approximately $6 million to resurface 4.5 miles of I-96 from east of Bristol Avenue to West River Drive in the city of Walker. Work also includes bridge improvements on the eastbound I-96 ramp to southbound US-131 over West River Drive and the Marquette Railroad.

Traffic restrictions:
Lane closures, traffic shifts and ramp closures will be in effect throughout the project. The eastbound I-96 ramp to southbound US-131 is scheduled to be closed for approximately 4 months. Traffic will be detoured to northbound US-131, then West River Drive to southbound US-131. Alternate detour: East on I-96 to Plainfield Avenue, then westbound I-96 to southbound US-131.
Jobs numbers:
Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 76 jobs.
Safety benefit: This project will improve the ride and is a long-term investment for the service life of the corridor and associated bridges.
