Mackinac Bridge escort staging area moving to Mackinaw City Welcome Center for next four weeks

ST. IGNACE, Mich. – Due to a Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) project on I-75 in Mackinaw City, the Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) is moving its escort staging area to the Mackinaw City Welcome Center for about four weeks beginning Aug. 1.

During the next phase of a project to rebuild I-75 in Mackinaw City, the northbound exit and entrance ramps at Jamet Street (Exit 339) will be closed as they are rebuilt. Due to that construction activity, there will be no room for vehicles queueing for the MBA’s commercial and passenger vehicle transport services in the usual area on I-75.

Commercial vehicle drivers requiring an escort across the bridge, as well as passenger vehicle drivers who do not feel comfortable driving across the bridge themselves, should park in designated areas at the Mackinaw City Welcome Center at 710 S Nicolet St. Bicyclists and pedestrians requiring transportation across the bridge also should meet MBA staff at the Welcome Center.

Signs will be posted on I-75, US-23, Nicolet Street, and in the Mackinaw City Welcome Center lots. Patrons requiring MBA transport services or escorts should contact the authority at 906-643-7600.
