UPDATE...

Grand Rapids- See map and project info below.

-The on ramp from 36th Street to eastbound I-96 is scheduled to close 7 a.m. this Monday through late October.

-The ramp from eastbound I-96 to westbound M-6 is scheduled to close 7 p.m. this Monday through mid July. 

-The ramp from eastbound M-6 to eastbound I-96 is closed through July 8. Detour: Exit eastbound M-6 to northbound M-37 to eastbound M-11 (28th Street) to eastbound I-96. 

-Lane closures are in place through July 8 on eastbound M-6 from west of Thornapple River Drive to I-96.  

The work is weather dependent.

Fixing I-96 near M-6 begins this Monday

 

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing approximately $15 million to rebuild more than 2 miles of eastbound and westbound I-96 between Thornapple River Drive and Whitneyville Avenue in Cascade Township.

Traffic restrictions:

Lane closures and traffic shifts will be in effect throughout the project, with one lane open in each direction. Traffic will be crossed over to share the same side of the roadway while the other direction is rebuilt. Ramp closures will be in effect at the 36th Street and M-6 interchanges. Check www.Michigan.gov/Drive for the most current traffic restriction information.  

Jobs numbers:

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 191 jobs.  

Safety benefit:

This project will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of the roadway.
