I-94 design-build project update:

May 17, 2021 -- During the last few weeks, crews continued building temporary pavement sections for maintaining traffic and the new westbound I-94 bridge over West Avenue. Additionally, crews continued to place embankment where the new westbound I-94 roadway will be near the US-127/M-50 interchange and began mot-mix asphalt removal on the existing surface of westbound I-94.

During the coming weeks, the contractor will continue building the new bridge and will be closing northbound and southbound US-127/M-50 to set concrete beams and place a new culvert for the Hurd Marvin Drain underneath US-127/M-50 north of I-94. Additionally, they will begin placing permanent drainage structures on the new westbound I-94 alignment. Following drainage structure placement, the contractor will begin building the future westbound I-94 pavement section.

Traffic maintenance for this upcoming week will include:

  • The northbound US-127/M-50 ramp to westbound I-94 is closed, as well as one lane being closed on both northbound and southbound US-127/M-50 from Sparks Street to Springport Road.
  • The southbound US-127/M-50 ramp to eastbound I-94 is closed and being maintained via a temporary ramp utilizing a temporary traffic signal.
  • Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, May 21, northbound and southbound US-127/M-50 will be closed and detoured between the I-94 ramps until 6 a.m. Monday, May 24.
  • Westbound and eastbound I-94 will remain shifted until mid-July with shoulder closures and a reduced speed zone from Airport Road to Elm Avenue.

Starting June 1, Lansing Avenue will be closed from Royal Drive to Shirley Drive while the Lansing Avenue bridge is being rebuilt.
