March 23, 2020 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has posted transcripts of the October 2019 public hearing regarding the I-94 modernization project in the city of Detroit. The posting contains the complete hearing transcript of oral testimony given by participating stakeholders and written comments received during public hearing. These transcripts have been posted on the dedicated project website, https://I-94Detroit.org.

On Oct. 10, 2019, MDOT hosted two public hearings to solicit feedback regarding the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (DSEIS) for proposed improvements on I-94 in the city of Detroit. The DSEIS describes and analyzes construction alternatives and measures taken to minimize harm to social, economic and environmental resources in the project area.

The public hearings allowed interested parties opportunities to review displays, speak with project team members and make comments on the project and the DSEIS.

The I-94 modernization project in Detroit includes work to reconstruct freeway lanes and service drives, replace overpasses and improve utilities on nearly 7 miles of I-94 from east of the I-96 interchange to east of Conner Avenue. Interchange improvements at I-75 between Warren Avenue and Custer Street, and M-10 (Lodge Freeway) between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Seward Avenue are included. This project will address needed structural and operational deficiencies. Pending federal approval of the final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement, major work is expected to start in 2023.

For those without Internet access, a copy of the oral testimony and written comments can be obtained via U.S. Mail by contacting the I-94 project office toll free at 844-370-6368.

Questions about the project may be addressed to senior project manager Terry A. Stepanski at StepanskiT@Michigan.gov or 517-241-0233.
