I-94 Project Update

December 16, 2019 – The eastbound I-94 Cooper Street exit ramp has been completed and has been opened for traffic. This week Friday, Cooper Street over I-94, the westbound I-94 Cooper Street exit ramp as well as the Elm Avenue to westbound I-94 entrance ramp will be opened to traffic.

 

Last week, the contractor completed concrete construction at the Cooper Street interchange. Additionally, they shifted eastbound I-94 traffic from West Avenue to M-60 back to its normal configuration for the winter and they shift westbound traffic near Elm Avenue to accommodate opening the westbound I-94 on ramp.

 

This week, crews will maintain reconstruction operations on the northern portion of the Cooper Street interchange including new topsoil and pavement markings as weather permits. Work requiring the closure of the intersection of Cooper Street and Rosehill Road will continue this week. From Lansing Avenue to Elm Avenue, the contractor will begin shifting traffic near Elm Avenue to accommodate opening the westbound I-94 on ramp.

 

Work on the new Cooper Street bridge will continue this week with the remainder of concrete barrier wall being poured and work beginning on the bridge’s pilasters. As for the new westbound I-94 bridge over the Grand River, the contractor has begun installing concrete footings and tremies at piers 3 and 5. They will also continue placing pile foundations at the remaining piers and abutments.

 

ATTENTION:

 

Maintenance of traffic for this upcoming week will include, traffic being maintained on I-94 with shoulder closures and reduced speed zones. The Cooper Street to westbound I-94 entrance ramp will be closed until the Spring of 2020.

When Cooper Street reopens the interchange layout will be significantly different. The new interchange layout will consist of two new roundabouts.
