MDOT closing M-85 (Fort Street) between Rosa Parks Boulevard and Trumbull Avenue for bridge work in Detroit
COUNTY:
Wayne
ROADWAY:
M-85 (Fort Street)
START DATE:
Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019
5 a.m.
PROJECT END DATE:
Early December 2019
PROJECT DETAILS:
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will invest $4.2 million to replace the M-85 bridge just to the east of Rosa Parks Boulevard. Work will include removing the existing bridge and replacing it with a box culvert, reconstructing the pavement, and new sidewalks. The new box culvert will serve as an underpass for a future shared use path to be completed by the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy.
DETOURS:
Northbound M-85 will be detoured via southbound Rosa Parks Boulevard, northbound Jefferson Avenue, and northbound Cabacier Street back to northbound M-85.
Southbound M-85 will be detoured via northbound Trumbull Avenue, southbound W. Lafayette Boulevard, and southbound Rosa Parks Boulevard back to southbound M-85.
SAFETY BENEFIT: This work will improve safety by providing better ride quality for traffic on M-85. This will also provide a safe crossing for the future shared use path traffic under M-85.
