US-2 Brevort River Bridge replacement, detour starts Sept. 3
COUNTY:
Mackinac
HIGHWAY:
US-2
CLOSEST TOWN:
Brevort
ESTIMATED STARTING DATE:
Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019
ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE:
Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019
PROJECT:
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing $2.3 million to replace the US-2 bridge over the Brevort River in Moran Township, Mackinac County. The narrow bridge, originally constructed in 1935, is considered functionally obsolete and is no longer a viable candidate for preventive maintenance; it needs to be replaced. The current structure is 55 feet long and 38 feet wide with shoulders. The new bridge will be 110 feet long and a little more than 46 feet wide with 10-foot shoulders.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS:
The work will require closing US-2 at the bridge with a posted detour. Westbound traffic will be detoured onto I-75 in St. Ignace to M-123 to Worth Road and back onto US-2. The detour will be reversed for eastbound traffic. The detour adds approximately 3 miles to the route for through-traffic. Moran Township and St. Ignace businesses along US-2 will still be open and accessible.

SAFETY BENEFITS:
The new structure will be wider, safer and more efficient for the motoring public and pedestrians.
