I-696 Project (Restore the Reuther)

Remaining I-696 freeway and service drive work in Macomb County begins Monday, April 15th!
Freeway work includes:
• Diamond grinding
• Joint sealing
• Crossover restoration
• Barrier wall repairs
• Asphalt shoulders
• Sewer work
On Monday the right two lanes on EB I-696 from Mound to Gratiot (M-3) will be closed continuously for crews to begin diamond grinding the pavement surface. By the weekend, the lane closures on EB I-696 will switch to the left two lanes to continue diamond grinding, and a single left lane closure will be in place on WB I-696.
Service Drive work includes:
• Sidewalk ramp upgrades
• Curb repairs
• Joint repairs
• Concrete repairs and paving
• Asphalt resurfacing
• Fence replacement
Intermittent single lane closures on the WB service drive from I-94 to Dequindre will begin on Monday and continue through the summer. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times. Work on the EB service drive will begin at a later date.
