US-24 (Telegraph Road) in Oakland County

to undergo major repairs after Labor Day

COUNTY:

Oakland

HIGHWAY:

US-24 (Telegraph Road)

START DATE:

9 a.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018

PROJECT END DATE:

Late November 2018

PROJECT DETAILS:

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will invest $6 million in long-term repairs on US-24 (Telegraph Road) in Bloomfield Township in three segments. The resurfacing project will include various types of repairs: milling 2 inches of concrete and replacing it with asphalt, concrete pavement repairs, drainage structure repairs, and pavement markings in three different locations:

         - Northbound US-24 from Long Lake Road to Square Lake Road,

         - Southbound US-24 from Orchard Lake Road to Long Lake Road, and

         - Both directions at Maple Road.

PROJECT LOCATIONS:

The work is being performed in three segments at three locations. There will be two lanes open during weekdays, although weekend paving may only allow for one lane to be open.

Segment 1 (early September to mid-October): Southbound US-24 from Orchard Lake Road to Square Lake Road.

Segment 2 (mid-October to late November):

Northbound and southbound US-24 from Long Lake Road to Square Lake Road.

Segment 3 (mid-September to mid-October):

Northbound and southbound US-24 approaching the Maple Road intersection.

TRAFFIC DETAILS:

Segment 1 will begin on Wednesday with southbound US-24 having the two right lanes closed from Orchard Lake Road to Square Lake Road for approximately two weeks. There may be occasional weekend work requiring an additional lane closure, leaving one lane open. Once work is completed, the lane closures will shift to the two left lanes for another two weeks, again with possible weekend work requiring a third lane closure.

While Segment 1 lane closures are in place, the eastbound Orchard Lake Road ramp to southbound US-24 and the Old Telegraph Road crossover to southbound US-24 will be closed.

In mid-September, work will also begin at the Maple Road intersection, requiring two lanes to be closed except on weekends when an additional lane may be closed for paving.

After Segment 1 is complete in mid-October, work will begin on northbound and southbound US-24 between Long Lake and Square Lake roads with two lanes open in both directions during weekdays. Weekend paving may require closing a third lane closure. This work should be completed in late November.

Access will be maintained to all businesses during construction.

MDOT understands the impact this type of major work has on motorists and works as quickly and as safely as possible to get the job done. This maintenance work will improve safety and provide a smoother driving surface.
