Elaine Poole receives top employee award
from the Michigan Department of Transportation

 

August 6, 2018 -- Elaine Poole of Jackson has received the 2018 Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Director's Award - the department's highest honor for outstanding service. MDOT established the annual award nearly 30 years ago to recognize employees who exhibit leadership and exemplary public service.

            "Everyone at MDOT knows the success of the organization depends on team work," said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle. "Elaine's enthusiasm and support for her fellow team members helps keep everyone motivated to do the best job they can for the public. While I am proud of our entire workforce, Director's Award recipients like Elaine stand out because they are nominated by their peers for this special recognition."

            Poole was honored in the administrative support category. After navigating the challenging process of planning the biannual MDOT region engineer meeting, Poole took the initiative to create a master guide for planning this important meeting moving forward. The detailed document includes information on securing venues, organizing pre-meeting events, detailed timelines, etc. While it would have been easier to simply create reference notes for herself, Poole's master guide has saved her counterparts countless hours of navigating the process alone.

            The Director's Award program represents the various work categories within the department. While MDOT employees nominate their peers, committees comprised of workers from each category make the final recommendations to the department.
