The Michigan Department of Transportation continues to "Restore the Reuther" with this weekend's rescheduled closure of westbound I-696 from Dequindre Road to US-24 (Telegraph Road). Weather permitting, this will be the final planned weekend closure for this segment before crews move to another segment in Oakland County.

MDOT reminds the public that I-696 repairs in Oakland County will be completed under weeknight lane closures and weekend full closures. All lanes of I-696 in Oakland County remain open weekdays from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

This weekend closure is in addition to the long-term closure in Macomb County that began in April from I-94 to Dequindre Road and remains in place through November.

TRAFFIC IMPACT:

Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, crews will begin closing entrance ramps to westbound I-696 from Dequindre Road to US-24 (Telegraph Road). The entire freeway is expected to be closed by 9 p.m. and reopen at 5 a.m. Monday. Only the Couzens Avenue ramp to westbound I-696 will remain open to provide access to northbound and southbound I-75; however, this ramp will not provide access to I-696. The first entrance for westbound I-696 will be at US-24 (Telegraph Road).

I-696 detour: I-75 to westbound M-102 (8 Mile Road) to northbound M-10 to US-24 (Telegraph Road).

Couzens Avenue detours:

- Northbound Couzens Avenue to westbound 10 Mile Road, then northbound John R Road to eastbound Lincoln Avenue.

- Southbound Couzens Avenue to the westbound I-696 service drive, then southbound John R Road to eastbound 10 Mile Road.

Eastbound I-696 remains open in Oakland and Macomb counties. I-94 in Detroit will remain open this weekend.
