June 4, 2018 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) Grand Region wants to let the public know about two important products for trail enthusiasts. The first is the Grand Region Road and Trail Bicycle Guide showing the existing trail and road network for the 13-county Grand Region. The North Map contains the counties of Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, and Osceola. The South Map contains the counties of Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Kent, Muskegon, and Ottawa. Both maps contain inset maps for larger cities like Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Holland, and Ludington. The second product is the MDOT Grand Region Regional Nonmotorized Plan. This document contains a snapshot of existing and proposed trails, priorities for nonmotorized facilities, and important reference information for those working to develop new trails or repair existing trails. The trails themselves are under the jurisdiction of various local and state agencies, as noted in the plan and on the maps. This plan was developed through extensive public involvement as well as the participation of key interest groups, including bicycle advocates, municipalities and friends of trails organizations. There are 2,860 miles of existing nonmotorized facilities in the Grand Region and another 1,895 miles are planned. Get your copy today and find a trail close by or far away. Hard copies of the maps can be obtained at any local MDOT office and the maps can be viewed and downloaded from: www.michigan.gov/mdot/0,4616,7-151-9615_11223-146053--,00.html The Nonmotorized Plan can be viewed and downloaded from: www.michigan.gov/documents/mdot/mdot_Grand-Region-Nonmotorized-Plan_605024_7.pdf.
