Kari Martin receives top employee award from
the Michigan Department of Transportation

August 14, 2017 -- Kari Martin of Canton Township has received the 2017 Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Director's Award - the department's highest honor for outstanding service. MDOT established the annual award nearly 30 years ago to recognize employees who exhibit leadership and exemplary public service.

"MDOT employees are committed to keeping Michigan's transportation system moving smoothly for residents and businesses, and communication is key to that success" said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle. "As the region planner for Michigan's first Flex Route project, Kari was indispensable in public outreach and community planning efforts. She was actively involved in more than 70 public meetings, offering clarity and assurance to attendees. While I am proud of our entire workforce, Director's Award recipients like Kari stand out because they are nominated by their peers for this special recognition."

Martin was honored in the professional, specialist category. She has also represented MDOT on several national and international committees and conferences. In 2014, Martin was selected as a lead marshal for the Intelligent Transportation Systems World Congress, where she actively supported several volunteers and demonstrators.

The Director's Award program represents the various work categories within the department. While MDOT employees nominate their peers, committees comprised of workers from each category make the final recommendations to the department.
