Denise Jones receives top employee award from
the Michigan Department of Transportation

August 14, 2017 -- Denise Jonesof Okemos has received the 2017 Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Director's Award - the department's highest honor for outstanding service. MDOT established the annual award nearly 30 years ago to recognize employees who exhibit leadership and exemplary public service.

"The dedication and hard work of MDOT employees is driven by the guidance and strong example set by leaders like Denise," said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle. "Denise masterfully balances her performance-driven spirit with a strong orientation toward people and an ability to inspire staff. While I am proud of our entire workforce, Director's Award recipients like Denise stand out because they are nominated by their peers for this special recognition."

Jones was honored in the officials and administrators category. She plays a significant role in the annual Call for Project (CFP) program, one of MDOT's most critical processes. The CFP Approval Committee typically rotates the role of chairperson each year. However, Jones has voluntarily filled this role for the past three years. Her willingness to assume this substantial responsibility demonstrates her desire to accommodate the priorities of the team and her firm commitment to the department.

The Director's Award program represents the various work categories within the department. While MDOT employees nominate their peers, committees comprised of workers from each category make the final recommendations to the department.
