PROJECT DETAILS:
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing $4 million to reconfigure Auburn Road between Crooks Road and Livernois Road to add a center left-turn lane, address underground sewer and utility work, and improve traffic signals. During the Auburn Road closure, residents' mailboxes will be temporarily moved to Avondale Meadows Academy, 1435 Auburn Road.
SAFETY DETAILS:
The addition of a center left-turn lane will increase safety and reduce the rate of rear-end collisions, often occurring in stop and go traffic, by an estimated 80 percent.
Closing one direction and detouring traffic will allow for a more efficient and safer work zone for the construction crew and motorists. Moving the mailboxes away from the work zone will also increase safety by eliminating mail delivery stops in that area during construction.

Beginning June 12, utility work starts on the shoulders of Auburn Road. The weekend of June 17, Livernois Road will be closed at Auburn Road for utility work in the intersection and will reopen before the closure of eastbound Auburn Road on Monday, June 19. Once eastbound work is completed and reopened, then westbound Auburn Road will close.
Detours:
Northbound Livernois Road: Westbound Auburn Road to northbound Crooks Road, then eastbound Hamlin Road to northbound Livernois Road.
Southbound Livernois Road: Westbound Hamlin Road to southbound Crooks Road, then eastbound Auburn Road to southbound Livernois.
Eastbound Auburn Road: Northbound Crooks Road to eastbound Hamlin Road, then southbound Livernois Road to eastbound Auburn Road.
Westbound Auburn Road: Northbound Livernois Road to westbound Hamlin Road, then southbound Crooks Road to westbound Auburn Road.
