Two-year M-59 reconstruction project begins soon

between M-53 and Romeo Plank

PROJECT DETAILS:

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will invest $60 million to reconstruct 3.7 miles of M-59 (Hall Road). The two-year project will occur between spring and October in 2017 and spring and October 2018.

 

Beginning this March, 2017 work will occur from M-53 to west of Garfield Road. In 2018, construction will proceed from west of Garfield Road to Romeo Plank Road. The project will extend the life of the roadway and allow for better traffic flow along Macomb County's "Golden Corridor."

During the first year, work will include replacing all concrete with new asphalt, improving drainage, upgrading ramps and sidewalks to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and new sidewalk will be added to fill in the missing gaps along M-59. New modern traffic signals, sign replacement, enhanced landscaping, and other aesthetic improvements are planned as well. During the second year, work will continue, along with a fourth lane added to both sides of M-59 between Garfield and Romeo Plank roads.

 

Three lanes will be open in each direction between east of M-53 and Romeo Plank Road daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., except for the M-59 bridge over M-53, which will have only two lanes open in each direction from March through mid-summer 2017. Work will occur day and night.

 

Businesses will always have access, although entry may need to be adjusted during the project. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project.
