All ramps at I-94 Exit 88 reopening

today at 40th Street in Kalamazoo County

September 23, 2016 – The final two ramps at the I-94 Exit 88 interchange with 40th Street will open today as the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) completes the $12 million investment in Charleston Township, between Galesburg and Battle Creek, in Kalamazoo County.

The ramps from 40th Street to westbound I-94, and from eastbound I-94 to 40th Street will reopen today, Friday, Sept. 23. In early August, MDOT opened the new 40th Street bridge over I-94, as well as the ramps from westbound I-94 to 40th Street, and from 40th Street to eastbound I-94.

Featuring longer entrance and exit ramps, improved intersections at 40th Street and Michigan Avenue, and better access to local businesses, the new interchange will reduce congestion and improve safety and traffic flow.

The old I-94 bridges over Michigan Avenue, just west of the new bridge, have been removed, and a new carpool lot has been built in the southwest corner of the interchange.

Next week, there will be some nighttime lane closures on I-94 to complete repaving, and some intermittent lane closures on 40th Street for bridge surface coating.
