Sprinkle Road "Walkabout in the Roundabout":

New bridge and roundabouts open to public for a nonmotorized event

 

WHAT:

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Road Commission of Kalamazoo County (RCKC) are hosting a public event at the new Sprinkle Road roundabouts and bridge over I-94 in Kalamazoo. Residents, business owners and media will be able to walk the roundabouts and bridge to get familiar with the new construction before the barrels are removed.

 

Elected officials and local leaders will briefly address the public and media at 1:30 p.m. in the north roundabout.

BACKGROUND: MDOT is planning to open the Sprinkle Road ramps, roundabouts and bridge in late November. The event is intended to give those interested an opportunity to walk, run or pedal around the roundabouts and new bridge. No motorized vehicles will be allowed during the event.

 

Traffic will be detoured on Cork Street, Millcork Street, Miller Road, Portage Road and Kilgore Road during the event.

 

Parking will be available at the north end of the project, on the corner of Sprinkle Road and Cork Street, at the Crew Family Restaurant and Bakery, 3810 E. Cork St.

 

MAP LEGEND:

The detour routes are marked in green. Northbound Sprinkle Road traffic will be detoured on Kilgore Road, Portage Road, Cork Street, Millcork Street and Miller Road. Southbound traffic will be detoured on Cork Street, Portage Road and Kilgore Road.

 

The event area is marked in red. Sprinkle Road will be closed between the two roundabouts; Cork Street on the north end of the project, and near Easy Street on the south end.

 

Event parking is marked in purple. Parking will be available at the north end of the project at the Crew Family Restaurant and Bakery, 3810 E. Cork St.
