International Bridge board loses one member, gains another |
August 13, 2015 – At today's Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority (SSMBA) board meeting, Chairwoman Helen Gillespie and the other five members of the binational panel welcomed their newest member, Natalie Kinloch.
Kinloch was appointed to the board by the Federal Bridge Corporation Ltd. (FBCL), the governmental owner of the Canadian bridge assets, at that body's June 25 regular meeting held in Point Edward, Ontario.
Kinloch is the chief operating officer of FBCL, the federal parent Crown corporation managing and overseeing four international bridge locations (Sault Ste. Marie, Point Edward, Lansdowne and Cornwall). She joined FBCL as the chief financial and administrative officer in 2009 and assumed the operations portfolio in 2014. Prior to joining FBCL, she served as senior strategic advisor to the CEO at the National Capital Commission and held a number of successive senior level positions in key areas, such as finance, corporate planning and government affairs. She started her career with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and also worked in the high-tech industry.
At FBCL, Kinloch is responsible for operations, finance, corporate planning, risk management, government liaison, human resources, and information technology.
Kinloch is currently serving as a member Board of Directors of the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority and the Seaway International Bridge Corporation, Ltd. She is a member of the Chartered Professional Accounts of Ontario and of the Institute of Corporate Directors. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Ottawa.
"The FBCL board made an excellent choice," said FBCL CEO Micheline Dube. "Natalie knows the Sault bridge and its financial operations very well."
SSMBA Chairwoman Gillespie said she was very pleased with Kinloch's appointment to the bridge authority board, noting that "her familiarity with the bridge operations will continue to ensure we have a knowledgeable board. Her strong financial background will be an added asset."
Kinloch's appointment fills the vacancy created by the recent resignation of Rick Talvitie, who was himself recently appointed to the FBCL board.
The SSMBA board recognized Talvitie for his many years of service. He was appointed to the predecessor Joint International Bridge Authority in November 2008. The SSMBA board cited many discussions regarding projects in which Talvitie's engineering knowledge and experience was beneficial. His input was especially helpful in the planning, design and construction of the Canada Border Services Agency plaza and the soon-to-be completed toll plaza reconstruction project; and many engineering studies and reports showing the bridge is in good condition and well maintained.
"We are fortunate to have had Rick serve on the Bridge Authority for nearly seven years," said Gillespie. "We wish him the very best in his term on the FBCL board."
