Update: I-75 detour to include width restriction

Beginning Wednesday, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close a section of I-75 in Chippewa County to traffic, with a posted detour. Northbound traffic will be detoured via Gaines Highway to M-80, then M-129 to M-28, and back onto I-75. The detour will be the reverse for southbound I-75 traffic. Vehicles wider than 11 feet will be restricted from using the detour route.

MDOT will be replacing two large culverts on I-75 approximately 2.5 miles south of the M-28/I-75 intersection. The culverts, installed in the 1960s, have reached the end of their service life. Work is expected to be completed in July.
