Dodge #4 State Park boat launch to be closed this summer for construction
The Department of Natural Resources today announced that the Cass Lake boat launch at Dodge #4 State Park in Oakland County will be closed this summer for a major rehabilitation. This construction has been needed for many years due to heavy use of the boat launch.
Construction will take place in two phases. The first phase will include increasing the size of the parking spaces at the boat launch. This will accommodate the larger cars, trucks and boats that have been introduced since the original park design. Construction also will include upgrades to storm water management, traffic flows and improved universal accessibility.
The second phase of the project will address the erosion at the beach. The project will consist of replenishing the sand at the beach, rebuilding the sidewalks, constructing an accessible recreation pier and installing wave dampeners to reduce the effects of wave erosion.
“The new site configuration will better accommodate the public’s need as well as address our water-quality footprint on Cass Lake,” said Dodge #4 Park Supervisor Rowdy Perry.
Because of the scope and magnitude of this project, there will be extended closures affecting the beach area and the boat launch. Construction is set to begin April 27 and continue through Oct. 16, with the following anticipated closures:
- The main park entrance and beach area will be closed April 27-June 26.
- The Hill and Bay shelter areas will be closed April 27-July 17.
- The Cass Lake boat launch will be closed July 20-Sept. 8.
- The Cass Lake boat launch will be closed during weekdays Sept. 9-Oct. 16 for launch and retrieval only. No parking will be available.
