Maybury State Park seeks donations for trailhead welcome center
Friends group launches crowd-funding campaign to boost awareness, support

Maybury State Park landscape planTrail enthusiasts and fans of Maybury State Park in Northville, Michigan, have the opportunity to help bring an important addition to this popular state park. The nonprofit group Friends of Maybury State Park is sponsoring a crowd-funding campaign (www.razoo.com/story/Friends-of-Maybury-State-Park) to improve the concession building at the trailhead.

The goal of the $75,000 project is to create a welcoming place for visitors and a gateway to Northville and Novi via regional trails. Repurposing the former concession building area and installing a new kiosk will provide a regional trailhead with plenty of parking for people to explore nearby communities and connect to Hines Drive and the I-275 Metro Trail. This is a way to create “trail town” connections, a goal of the new state trail plan adopted last year.

Maybury State Park contains almost 1,000 acres of gently rolling terrain, open meadow, mature forest and a variety of wildlife and abundant wildflowers. The park, with more than 25 miles of trails, picnic shelters, a fishing pond and a riding stable, gives people an opportunity to enjoy a variety of outdoor recreation activities.

"We welcome a half-million visitors every year at Maybury State Park, people who come to enjoy our trail system, a variety of events, and the simple opportunity to explore Michigan's great outdoors in a beautiful state park setting," said Nikki VanBloem, Maybury State Park supervisor. "Plans for this trailhead are about making everyone feel even more welcome by increasing accessibility and strengthening the park's connections with the communities we serve."

The variety of trails at the park can accommodate winter use (cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and fat-tire biking), summer use (hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding) and everything in between. Plans for the project, additional details and giving options can be found at http://www.razoo.com/story/Friends-Of-Maybury-State-Park.
