DNR seeks information regarding illegally killed tundra swan in Baraga County

Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officers are seeking information regarding a tundra swan that was illegally shot and killed in Baraga County during the last weekend of September.

The tundra swan was found in the vicinity of Burns Lake near the village of Alberta. Tundra swans are a protected, nongame species in Michigan. Illegal take of a protected, nongame species is a misdemeanor and carries a maximum fine of $500 and/or 90 days in jail plus $100 in restitution.

Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to report it to the Baraga DNR Customer Service Center at 906-353-6651 during weekday business hours, or by calling the Report All Poaching hotline at 800-292-7800, 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

Citizens who provide information leading to an arrest are eligible for a monetary reward; information can be left anonymously.
