Clam Lake boating access site scheduled for improvements in
late September

The Department of Natural Resources today announced that it expects to begin construction on Clam Lake boating access site (Antrim County) Monday, Sept. 29. The site, located southwest of Bellaire at the end of Clam Lake Road, will be closed for the duration of construction.

Work is estimated to be complete on or around Thursday, Oct. 2, and the improvements will provide a better turning radius for boaters pulling their boats out on the ramp. In order to reduce erosion, a split-rail fence will be installed to redirect users coming from the parking lots.

This project is supported through the Michigan State Waterways Fund, which is comprised of revenues received from boat registrations and marine fuel taxes. The revenues are dedicated by state law for the acquisition, development and management of boating facilities.

Michigan is one of the nation’s leaders in registered watercrafts, approaching nearly 1 million. Boaters enjoy more than 11,000 inland lakes, 36,000 miles of rivers and streams, and 3,000 miles of freshwater shoreline – more than any other state.

During construction, Clam Lake can be accessed by river located on the east side of Torch Lake. There are also two boat launches on Torch Lake (East Port boating access site on the north end and Torch River Bridge boating access site on the south end).
