Pine River boat launch construction begins in Mackinac County

Site of future launch temporarily closed to the public

Construction of a new state boat launch on the Pine River in eastern Mackinac County has begun, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced today.

To ensure public safety during the construction period, the site – located on Pine River Road one-quarter mile north of Hwy. 134 – is temporarily closed to visitors. Completion of the boat launch is anticipated by Tuesday, Sept. 30, at which time the site will reopen to the public.

Additional site improvements, including a vault toilet and parking area, will continue after the launch is open.

This project is funded by the Michigan State Waterways, a restricted fund derived from boat registration fees and the Michigan marine fuel tax, which is used for the construction, operation and maintenance of recreational boating facilities, harbors and inland waterways.

The nearest boat launches to the Pine River property are Hessel/Clark Township Marina (about 12 miles east/southeast) and St. Ignace public boat launch (about 15 miles south).
