With temperatures climbing throughout Michigan, we're sure you don't need to be reminded that summer has officially begun. So without further ado, here's a quick preview of this issue, telling you all about what's going on at the state parks and beyond:
With summer officially begun, the state parks are offering a variety of fun and educational programs every day of the week. Looking to get active? Check out a Fresh Air Fit program and enjoy the many additional benefits of taking exercise outdoors, including better mood, greater physical challenges and more vitamins, just to name a few.
Visitors can also enjoy free introductory recreation classes through the DNR’s Recreation 101 program. These classes provide all the equipment and instruction necessary for novice outdoor enthusiasts to try something new, like archery, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing and much more. Some parks also offer Recreation 202 programs, which provide more in-depth instruction and outdoor experiences for a small fee.

Thousands of Michiganders make the trek to the Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day morning, but busy schedules, gas prices and distance prevent some from making the trip to Mackinac. Local communities host Labor Day Community Walks to provide easily accessible, fun and healthy holiday options to residents who are celebrating Labor Day at home.
Join communities all across Michigan as they walk through parks, trails and across bridges to celebrate physical fitness together this Labor Day.
Labor Day Community Walks will be endorsed by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports which acknowledges quality physical activity events that contribute to the health and well-being of Michigan residents. Host communities will be able to use the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports logo on promotional items and will receive free support materials. Additionally, participants in a local Labor Day Community Walk will be eligible to enter the Mackinac Bridge Run Lottery for Labor Day 2015.
