Natural Resources Commission to meet Thursday in Lansing

The Michigan Natural Resources Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, May 8, at the Michigan State University Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health, 4125 Beaumont Road, in Lansing.

The day begins with a 10 a.m. meeting of the Marketing, Partnership and Outreach Advisory Committee, which will receive updates on hunting, fishing, camping and Recreation Passport customer data.

At 1 p.m., the Policy Committee on Wildlife and Fisheries will receive updates from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Fisheries and Wildlife divisions, including a proposal for multi-year fishing regulations, information on cormorants, and recommendations on furbearer and deer regulations.

The Committee of the Whole follows at 3 p.m. DNR Director Keith Creagh’s report will include an update/report from the recent Council of Great Lakes Governors meeting about invasive species and regional collaboration; information about the Little Manistee River weir; and an update on hunting, fishing and ORV licensing. Additionally:

  • Trevor VanDyke, manager of the DNR’s Legislative and Legal Affairs Office, will give a legislative update.
  • DNR Forest Resources Division staff will report on the 40th anniversary of the Pigeon River Country Advisory Council’s partnership with the department.
  • Director Creagh will present awards of recognition to several volunteer hunter education safety instructors who have served as instructors for more than 40 years.

Following public comments, Director Creagh will consider action on several land transactions.
