Portions of Betsie River Pathway to temporarily close for logging operations

Department of Natural Resources (DNR) officials today announced that the southernmost 2-mile loop of the Betsie River Pathway, Manistee County, will temporarily close due to a logging operation in the area. The remaining 8 miles of trail will stay open for nonmotorized use. The open portion of trail will be accessible from both the trailhead on Longstreet Road and the Crystal Mountain property adjoining the trail. Signage will be placed at appropriate trail intersections to advise users of the closure.

This temporary closure is expected to be in effect from the end of March until the end of April. The timber harvest activities will have little effect on the trail and will promote a healthy, vibrant forest for future generations.

Questions may be directed to Todd Neiss at 231-775-9727 ext. 6045. Information regarding other nonmotorized pathway opportunities is available on the DNR website www.michigan.gov/dnrtrails.
