Two DNR officers receive Lifesaving Awards
The Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) Law Enforcement Division recently honored two conservation officers with Lifesaving Awards after their quick response to an emergency 911 call saved a woman’s life.
Officer Patrick McManus and Sgt. Jeff Rabbers were on patrol in Allegan County when the call came in about an attempted suicide. When the pair arrived on the scene, they found the victim’s husband waiting for them. The husband’s parents, who did not know CPR, were trying to revive the unconscious victim.
The officers immediately assumed control of the situation. McManus, who had retrieved his first-aid equipment from the vehicle, commenced rescue breathing and successfully restored the victim’s arterial pulse. By the time emergency medical personnel arrived, the victim was in stable condition.
The responding emergency medical technicians credited the DNR officers with saving the woman’s life.
Gary Hagler, chief of the DNR’s Law Enforcement Division, presented the officers with the awards at the September meeting of the Natural Resources Commission in Lansing.
