Combine fitness and fun with Rec101

Michigan is rolling out the “green” carpet to welcome everyone into the woods and waters! Recreation 101, or “Rec101,” is a series of intro-to format classes taught by DNR staff or expert volunteers from organizations, guide services, outfitters, and more. These volunteers offer their time and knowledge at no charge to the DNR or the participants. Rec101 is now offered statewide in Michigan State Parks as well as community recreation agencies through collaboration with the Michigan Recreation and Park Association. Almost every recreational pursuit is offered, from archery to windsurfing, and we hope you’ll try them all!

Girl fishing

Are you looking for a place to go fishing that is easy to access, has a high likelihood of catching fish, has various amenities, and is all around family-friendly? Then the Family Friendly Fishing Waters project can help! The DNR has put together a map that lists family-friendly fishing waters throughout the state of Michigan, to help inexperienced anglers and their families find the perfect fishing spot for a day of fun by the water. Each water body’s online profile includes its geographic location, driving directions, parking information, hours of operation, species of fish available, typical bait used, and much more.
