Natural Resource Education Programs

Dear Educators,
Now that school has been in session for a few weeks, I'd like to let you know about an upcoming conference that you may be interested in attending. October brings a great opportunity for educators to learn more about Michigan’s environment and discover exciting new methods to use in the classroom. The Michigan Alliance for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE) will host their annual conference October 12-14 at the MSU Kettunen Center in Tustin (near Cadillac).

Breakout sessions include topics such as bringing the Great Lakes into your classroom, teambuilding, using Google Earth to engage students, aquatic invasive species, and many more. There are also ample opportunities to pick up environmental education curricula training in programs such as Project WILD, Project WET and Michigan Environmental Education Curriculum Support (MEECS).

Field trips include a hands-on trip to the Little Manistee weir to participate in the annual DNR Chinook Salmon egg take, paddling the Manistee River, discovering Michigan native plants and a trip to the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center in Cadillac.

The annual MAEOE conference is a great way to network with other Michigan educators that have an interest in natural resources and environmental education. For more information on the conference go to www.MAEOE.com and click on the link to the Fall 2012 Conference.

We hope to see you there!
