Public input sought on Port Crescent zoning amendment, requiring management plan update
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is inviting public comment on a proposed zoning amendment to Port Crescent State Park's (Huron County) Phase 1 General Management Plan.
The DNR proposes an amendment to the park’s Port Crescent State Park Phase 1 General Management Plan approved in 2011. The proposed amendment involves expanding the administrative services zone (formerly the visitor services zone) southward by approximately 350 feet to accommodate the construction of a new wastewater lagoon. Archaeological surveys have been conducted, and no significant cultural resources have been identified within the project area.
The DNR uses general management plans to define a long-range planning and management strategy that protects a park's natural and cultural resources, while also addressing recreation and educational needs and opportunities.

Recent park updates
Thanks to $4.95 million in federal relief funding from Gov. Whitmer's Building Michigan Together Plan, Port Crescent State Park has undergone extensive improvements this year, including upgrades to roads, water and sewer lines, electrical service and the park's sanitation station. To accomplish these improvements, campsites were temporarily closed during the 2024 season. The park is scheduled to reopen to camping June 27, 2025, subject to all work being completed.
For more about the proposed improvements, contact Brian Dunn, park supervisor, at DunnB1@Michigan.gov or 989-738-6063.
