What do you like to do at Aloha State Park? Camping, fishing, boating, hiking or something else? Whatever you enjoy or would like to see more of, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources wants to hear from you.

Join the DNR 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, for a virtual public meeting to learn about future plans for the popular destination in Cheboygan County.

At the meeting, DNR staff will present an overview of the new draft general management plan, proposed improvements and the planning process, followed by an opportunity for people to ask questions. Advance registration is required.

The DNR uses general management plans to define a long-range planning and management strategy that protects a state park’s resources while addressing recreation and education needs and opportunities.

“Public input is a critical part of the planning process," said Debbie Jensen, park management plan administrator with the DNR Parks and Recreation Division. "Earlier this year, more than a thousand people completed an online public input survey, which provided important guidance when drafting the plan."

An online public input survey – open through Oct. 2 – will be available immediately following the meeting. The virtual meeting will be recorded and posted online approximately one week after the event.

Visit Michigan.gov/Aloha to find general management planning resources, a link to the meeting registration form, the draft plan, and (when available) the public input survey and meeting recording.

Aloha State Park is located on the shores of Mullett Lake at the central point of the Inland Waterway. A modern campground features lakeshore sites, a boat launch and a boat basin where registered campers can leave their boats during their stay. The park provides access to the North Eastern State Trail, a 70-mile rail-trail between Alpena and Cheboygan, which connects to an expansive regional trail system.

Additional information on the DNR’s general management plan process is available at Michigan.gov/ParkManagementPlans.
