It’s not too late to get out for some goose hunting.
Goose hunting
- South Zone: Jan. 1-9 and Feb. 5-14.

The spring turkey application period is Jan. 1 - Feb. 1 and you can apply online or wherever DNR licenses are sold.

The archery deer season extends until Jan. 31 for Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties to manage ongoing human-deer conflicts. A deer license, deer combo license or antlerless deer license are valid during the extended season. All rules and regulations for the archery season apply.

A late antlerless firearm hunt on private land south of Highway M-32 in Alpena County is taking place Jan. 6-9 and Jan. 13-16 to provide an additional opportunity for deer management in the state’s bovine tuberculosis area.
Hunters can harvest antlerless deer with an unused 2021 deer or deer combo hunting license, a universal antlerless deer hunting license or an antlerless license to hunt in Deer Management Unit 487. Additional tags can be purchased at any DNR license agent through Jan. 16.
Private properties in the hunt area are available for the public to use free of charge through the Hunting Access Program. Enrolled properties can be viewed at Michigan.gov/HAP.
Successful hunters can submit their deer heads for bovine tuberculosis testing at any of the 24-hour, self-service drop boxes available throughout the region. A smartphone is required to use the drop boxes. The Alpena and Atlanta DNR deer check stations will be open on a limited schedule. Check station hours and drop box locations can be found at Michigan.gov/DeerCheck.
