2021 Hunting Digest available online

The Hunting Digest has updated deer and small game hunting regulations, season dates and bag limits for the 2021 seasons.

Fall turkey application period July 1 - Aug. 1

Apply for a fall turkey license July 1 through Aug. 1 at Michigan.gov/Turkey.

Applications can be purchased for $5 online at eLicense or anywhere DNR licenses are sold.

Bear drawing results available

Bear drawing results are now available at Michigan.gov/Bear.

There were 7,001 bear licenses available for the 2021 fall hunting seasons.


Elk drawing results available

Elk drawing results are now available at Michigan.gov/Elk.

There were 260 elk licenses available for the 2021 fall hunting seasons.


Deer hunting access permit application period begins July 15

Apply July 15 - Aug. 15 for deer hunting access permits:

  • Antlerless deer hunting access permit – for mid-Upper Peninsula deer management units only
    • In the Upper Peninsula, antlerless deer harvest is restricted in new DMUs 351 and 352.
    • DMU 351 includes DMUs 021, 349, 249, 149, 017 and 117. DMU 352 includes DMUs 027, 036, 152 and 252.
    • To hunt in these DMUs, you are required to have an antlerless deer hunting access permit for the DMU you are hunting AND a universal antlerless deer license. 
    • For 2021, DMUs 351 and 352 will each have a quota of 1,000 access permits.

  • Reserved deer hunting access permit

Applications for limited-hunt access permits may be purchased for $5 from license
agents or online at Michigan.gov/DNRLicenses during the July 15 - Aug. 15 application period.


Fur harvesting

  • Coyote hunting is open year-round.
