Elementary students across the state can join in a one-day adventure to learn about the importance of white-tailed deer. This day, fondly called “Deer Camp,” is full of fun activities for all school subjects.
The Nov. 15 firearm deer season opener falls on a Sunday this year, but you can use these activities whichever day works best for your class.
Registered educators will be emailed a packet of interactive activities to do throughout the day. The activities cover a variety of subjects, including science, math, English, gym and art. Educators will also receive a PowerPoint presentation as an optional aid to guide discussions.
We hope you consider joining in on the fun teaching your students about the importance of Michigan’s white-tailed deer in November!
Additional lesson plans and materials are offered through the DNR’s wildlife classroom curricula for kindergarten through high school students, covering wildlife-specific topics like waterfowl, black bears, elk and turkey.
Virtual field trips, videos, activities and more are available at Michigan.gov/DNREducation.
