Join the Detroit River Pollinator Project BioBlitz

Join the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center, Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, Belle Isle Conservancy, Detroit Zoological Society, and parks throughout the country in a fun challenge to see how many pollinator species can be documented this September. It's easy to participate either by joining an event or making observations on your own using the iNaturalist app. With the iNaturalist app, you just take a picture of a pollinator (bee, butterfly, bat, etc.) or pollinator-friendly plant, and the community will help identify the species. You can participate by exploring the nature and wildlife within Milliken State Park, Dequindre Cut Greenway, Gabriel Richard Park and/or Belle Isle Park – all within a few-mile radius of each other, near Downtown Detroit. Any observation you make will count during our event.

This BioBlitz event was made possible by the National Recreation and Park Association and The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation. Park and recreation agencies across the country will be hosting Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz events throughout the month. You can learn more about the Parks for Pollinators initiative and see which agencies are participating by visiting NRPA.org/BioBlitz.

What’s a BioBlitz? The Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz is an event where community members work with park staff to create a snapshot of the variety of wildlife that can be found in the specified locations Sept. 16-30. This information will help us understand how we can better protect pollinators and other important wildlife in our community.

If you are familiar with citizen science projects, you can continue your participation on this iNaturalist link and start collecting data Sept. 16-30.

We look forward to seeing your contributions!
