Find fun this holiday weekend and all season long

Discover local opportunities for fall fishing, hunting, trail treks and more

Many people across the state are gearing up for the Labor Day holiday weekend, the unofficial end to summer. And while the past six months amid the COVID-19 pandemic looked much different than anyone could have predicted, one thing holds true: when it comes to your physical and mental health, time spent outdoors is time incredibly well spent.

Whether your plans are set or still shaping up, we’ve got some ideas for making the most of waning warmer days and the coming cooler nights:

  • Fall hunting in Michigan has plenty to offer, including the September start of small game, goose, ruffed grouse and early deer seasons. There’s something for everyone, veterans and those new to the hunt.
  • Yellow perch, salmon, steelhead, smallmouth bass and walleye – get ready to reel in some of these beauties at fishing hot spots across the state, many of them in nearby waters.
  • Need inspiration to get outdoors? Take on the 2020 Michigan Trails Week Challenge and walk, run, ride, hike or paddle your way to a new personal best while adding your mileage to our collective 100,000-mile goal (and maybe earn some great outdoor gear).
  • Whether you’re looking for state parks, state forest campgrounds or places to hunt, fish, bike, boat or just find some green space, we have some handy resources to help you keep it local.

No matter what outdoor adventure calls to you, please do your part to keep yourself and those around you safe. Follow public health and safety guidelines. Go out only if you’re feeling healthy, practice proper social distancing of at least 6 feet from other people, and wear a face covering when that distance can’t be maintained. Have fun but be safe, be smart and stay well.

Go get out there! Don’t let summer come to a close without soaking up a little more sun and making a million new memories.
