2019 Wetland Wonders Challenge winners

The seven winners of the 2019 Consumers Energy-sponsored Wetland Wonders Challenge are Geoffrey Erwin of Columbiaville, Jeff Keibler of St. Clair, Bob Ruth of Saginaw, Joel Sweezea of Grand Blanc, Jared Tippett of Flushing, James Wendt of Chesterfield and John Zecklin of Grand Junction.

To be entered in the drawing, participants had to hunt at three or more of the seven southern Michigan Wetland Wonders.

The winners will receive prize packages worth approximately $750, including a Zink custom duck call, a $500 Cabela’s gift card and a "golden ticket" good for one non-reserved first-choice pick at a managed waterfowl hunt area for the 2020-21 season. Prizes will be awarded at a winners' reception March 13.

Special thanks to Consumers Energy, whose generous sponsorship of this contest allowed for promoting the challenge and purchasing prizes for the winners. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources also appreciates Michigan United Conservation Clubs handling the drawing of contest winners.

Michigan’s Wetland Wonders include the seven premier managed waterfowl areas in southern Michigan: Fennville Farm Unit at the Allegan State Game Area, Fish Point State Wildlife Area, St. Clair Flats State Wildlife Area on Harsens Island, Muskegon County Wastewater Facility, Nayanquing Point State Wildlife Area, Pointe Mouillee State Game Area and Shiawassee River State Game Area.

“These areas are known for some of the best waterfowl hunting in the state, and we invite hunters to come and see what they’re all about,” said Barbara Avers, DNR waterfowl and wetlands specialist. “This contest gives hunters great incentive to explore Managed Waterfowl Areas they’ve never been to before.”
